Everything you need to know before you visit

  • Children under the age of 3 must sign a waiver, but do not need a Shore Pass.
  • Children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the lagoon.
  • Children ages 5–7 may only surf with a private coach, not a parent or guardian.
  • Children ages 8–14 may enroll in our NLand Training Center junior coaching programs or surf with a parent or guardian on the same wave with individual boards.
  • A competitive junior may only opt out of the “same wave” requirement if he/she has been authorized by the Head of Surf Operations at the conclusion of their first surf session.

You should arrive one hour before the start of your surf session. This will give you enough time to fill out the waiver, pick up wristbands and store your belongings. Arrive at your Launch Pad no less than 15 minutes before your surf time. Note: latecomers may lose their wave time and rescheduling is not guaranteed.

Board Storage
NLand has board racks in multiple locations throughout the park. Be sure to keep an eye on your board—it is your responsibility, not ours.

You may bodyboard (boogie board) if you have swim fins and a leash. You may rent a bodyboard at Check-In.

You may not bodysurf at NLand.

Booking Passes & Training
We recommend you book surf passes, shore passes and training sessions online to ensure availability.

You may only purchase three Reef Wave passes at a time. In addition, the Inside and Bay Waves each have a purchase limit of five passes at one time.

We recommend that guests wear surf booties while in the lagoon.

Beach Chairs
You are welcome to bring your own beach chairs. You can also purchase NLand beach chairs in the Surf Shop. Beach chairs are not allowed on the pier.

Beach Umbrellas
Beach umbrellas are not allowed.

With 48 hours notice, guests may cancel a surf or coaching session for a full refund or reschedule.

For group cancellations, full payment must be received at the time of the booking.  If a group cancels farther than one week out, we will rebook for a later date. If a group cancels less than a week out, we will refund 50%.

For weather-related lagoon closing refunds, please see Weather.

Lagoon Rules
The Lagoon Surfing Rules govern accepted behavior and choreography in the lagoon to reduce injury and promote safety.

  1. Only enter and exit the lagoon from a launch pad, not from the end areas.
  2. Catch waves only from designated take off areas.
  3. Surf only in your designated area.
  4. All surfers must dismount by flopping in the water flat on their backs, rather than diving off head first or jumping in feet first.
  5. Watch out for other surfers and maintain a safe distance from them.
  6. Always follow safety rules and surf guide instruction.
  7. Only surfers are allowed in the lagoon.
  8. Participate responsibly. You should be capable of self-rescue. You should be in good health and know your physical conditions and limitations. If you believe your health could be at risk or aggravate a pre-existing condition of any kind, do not surf.

Launch Pads
Launch Pads one through three run the length of the west side of the Lagoon, while Launch Pads four through six run the length of the east side of the Lagoon.

Surfers may only enter and exit the Lagoon from one of these Launch Pads. Launch Pad assignments are given to each surfer when they pick up their wristbands.

Note: if you would like to surf with a group of surfers who are at the same level or want to stay on the same side of the Lagoon and are at varying levels, let Admission know before they print your wristband. Capacity is limited but we will try to accommodate these requests.

Surfers must arrive at their assigned Launch Pad 15 minutes before their session begins.
